Hit? It's a relic for what it is

A few time ago I bought one of those repack boxes and this one stated that, besides the 10 factory sealed packs I'd get as well 2 authentic jersey cards!

I like repack boxes specially because I still have yet to get tire of getting wax packs and stuff like that.

I'm still many cards away to get worried that these repack boxes only bring me more dups.

So that is all that matter, really, getting packs of sets I'd probably never heard before or that I've heard but didn't managed to get cards of them.

That Turkey Red pack was enough for me to buy this box.

More than the 'relic' cards.

But! If they were coming my way I was not the one to let them outside my door.

So, while I still have to process those packs and so I already can show you what 'relics' I got.

Looking at the box I thought, I'd like to get that Jeter card.

Did I?...

Two envelops were inside the box...can you feel the suspense!?

And YES!

I didn't get the Derek Jeter card that was on the box cover but I still got a Jeter jersey card!

But then I look again to the repack box again an to the card and I finally noticed that it's not a relic card by itself.

The Jeter card is framed in a bigger cardboard and the jersey patch too.

If there was doubtfulness around relic cards having this one in my hand makes it even more...

But at least the Jeter card is cool and I didn't have it.

Lets see what it's on the back.

Ohhhh it has instructions to let us set the card as a true frame.

And look closely...What is written?

Jersey from card manufacturer or secondary market!?

MUAHAHAH

From one of your old shirts that is!

But if I was laughing already with the Jeter 'relic' card I opened the second envelop and saw this.

Sammy Sosa card.

Ohhhhhh wait!

Sammy Sosa e-Card with the code already scratched!

Can you get more 'relic' than this!?

The back states the same instructions to get the frame working on the stand and again where the jersey patch might have come...

But look again, closely to the magnificent of this card.

First the scratched e-Card code...

...and then the jersey patch.

These two are my most precious 'relic cards' in my whole-right-now-and-future-to-come-collection!

Unless I get an other of these repack boxes.

Black & White - Is that a bad thing? - take 2

I'm back.

Yesterday's post was me venting a bit.

All set to get back to the hobby.

I posted a couple of days ago a black and white Jeter photo that I liked and said I'd gimp it to be some kind of a card-looking-photo.

Actually I didn't gimp it but I paint it.

I really cannot get along with gimp like the way I did with photoshop.

So I reverted to basic tool that every windows PC has. Paint.

Here is the amateur result of it.

I like the diagonal design. I saw a few cards with it and have a few.

For example the 1993 Leaf set, the 'Godzilla' set, have only one corner 'cut'.

But I think the set that pop up always in my mind when talking about double-cut-corners is the 1989 Fleer set.

I like it. Even the gray background. Sadly I don't have any card from this set.

But I also like that year Fleer SuperStar look even with no gray.

This one kind of have both bottom corners on diagonal way. This set I have.

I like diagonal layout on cards because it gives somehow movement to the card.

Black & White - Is that a bad thing?

I'm not talking about the video game with that name (which is great by the way - even after all these years), but I'm talking about nowadays cards in a retro B&W style.

I saw this image yesterday on Pinterest.

And the first thought that crossed my mind was that I'd love to have a card with this photo just like it is. In all its black and white splendor.

I saw some way back vintage cards that were B&W because they couldn't make it on colour. But the quality of those days black and white is not the same as today.

I also read about the joy of collectors when the first coloured cards came out.

I understand that. The colour brought them to life.

But thinking of the improvement in photo quality and so, I'd accept and love to see some kind of inserts that presented photos in B&W.

Just like this Jeter photo.

They couldn't put all rainbow colours on the border. That's a requirement! Or that would make the card lose all the impact.

the border should make contrast but not pop a persons' eyeball from the head.

I think I might and go and gimp the photo to make it look like a potential card.

So Topps, since you are the only ones left, think of making an insert set for next years Heritage or even the flagship set.

2009 Topps Heritage - Yankees post

After posting about 2012 Heritage box I got lets take a look at the cards I got from a 2009 Heritage box.

I'm missing the other cards photos so I'll show only the Yankees I got and later I'll post the others..

I've always liked A.J. I think I've already stated that here in the blog before. And it was a sad day when I knew he went to Pittsburgh. Didn't have a great season last year like ht 2 before but Yankees could really use his pitching this season even more with so much DL players.

I'm note sure if this card is not photoshopped. But that's the problem with Heritage cards. Some have the aspect of being painted by some kid.

Oh look! Got the Captain! Jeter is having such a great ending-career time that sometimes I think he will not end it soon. All Yankees fans appreciate that Derek!

My only shiny card from the box and it's an Andy Pettitte one! Who would not love it!? Was glad to have him back in the roster. But stopping for 2011 season may had him a bit rusty and might be the cause for his long DL time.
I read yesterday he will pitch soon so I'm looking for it.

(Never mind you can see me taking the picture of Pettitte's card.)
