Rookie tell me where you are now - Hideo Nomo

Since I started reading baseball cards blogs and knowing a bit of the collectors' world I've known about Nomo's myth.

So, there is no surprise about him getting RotY award.

How did he after the award?

Nomo played for:

    Kintetsu Buffaloes (1990–1994)
    Los Angeles Dodgers (1995–1998)
    New York Mets (1998)
    Milwaukee Brewers (1999)
    Detroit Tigers (2000)
    Boston Red Sox (2001)
    Los Angeles Dodgers (2002–2004)
    Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2005)
    Kansas City Royals (2008)

Quite a lot of teams and almost 20 years playing baseball.

And with a few awards:

NPB

    Pacific League MVP (1990)
    Eiji Sawamura Award (1990)
    Triple Crown (1990)
Pacific League Rookie of the Year (1990)

MLB

    All-Star (1995)
NL Rookie of the Year (1995)
    2× Strikeout leader (1995, 2001)
    Threw two career no-hitters

It seems Nomo's first decade playing in MLB were the best for him. But it was enough to get him in the Japanese Hall of Fame.

World Series LAD vs HOU

So my Yankees got into game 7 but then were silent by the almighty Houston Astros.

I'm not saying this because I don't like Dodgers, because I don't have any like or deslike for them lol But it's true that after Yankees I kinda like Astros and D-Backs. So I'm here for Houston.

And so I remembered to search my scans (the ones I have online in my cloud...because right now I don't know where half of my things are...) for some Dodgers and Astros cards.

And this is what I found from a couple of sets. I have more. But the WS has just began.

I count a pitcher for each team.

 Two batters.

One batter for Astros and an other one for Dodgers

 Some 3D LA for you.

But Houston has no problem and has an other 4 3D players for you.

And if we were counting it would be LA-8 against HOU-6.

There are some cards you don't expect to find

I know this is not a first and that it's not that uncommon to see a card with a pitcher batting.

But there are some pitchers I can picture at the plate. The first time I noticed Dan Haren was was not because he was pitching but he was batting. And he was a pretty good pitch batting!

But then there are other pitchers I usually don't picture at the plate.

Fernando Valenzuela is one of them. So it's quite nice to have this card of him bunting.

And as for what I've read in the net he actually had a season with batting average over .300!

Catchers

Two examples of how a catcher's card can be great.

We have Mike Scioscia arguing with the umpire. And there is someone else there too.

Here Damon Berryhill is ready to tag the player rushing to the home plate.

Would it be an horizontal card and the sliding player would be fitting and the card would be even better.

There are knees and knees

Usually you see some players getting so low to bunt a ball that they go down in one knee...

...others think they are playing some kind of volley/baseball mix.

Great Backs - Season 1 Episode 1

Lets start a new series of posts.

Upper Deck is, in my opinion, one of the greatest...in cards back.

It's quite possible that almost all of the cards I'm showing in the series will be from Upper Deck, but lets wait and see...

I start with a 1991 Upper Deck Brett Butler card.

That's a strange way of celebrating doing the 'L'(oser) sign...or was it something else?

The Red Shoe Unknown Player

Jose Offerman has someone coming his way.

The Red Shoe Unknown Player.

I think Offerman has the out but I always imagine that the Red Shoe Unknown Player will slap the ball from Offerman.

'Ohhhhhh No! Me boy! You'll not catch the ball!"

One Thousand and One Nights

I just don't know if Antonio Osuna is playing a role in Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves or Aladdin.

Baseball meet Football - Football meet Baseball

I just saw this today on a national football site.

Joining Puig and Cristiano Ronaldo in the same place that's well thought.

Even if I don't quite like Cristiano and even lesssssssssssss * 1000000000000000 his current team, he's Portuguese and it's cool to see him having the first pitch.

Even more if it is a wild pitch.

You might have seen already his tomahawk free kicks. One of the last ones broke a kids arm!

Imagine if he was a pitcher!? And had an arm like he has his leg and foot!?

The only thing cool is that the game was against my Yankees.

Again, even if they don't get time on the video.

But if was the yesterday game means my Yankees won.

All is fine in the end.
