Brothers

I got this card in one of the many rack packs I got.

It's quite the nice card.

Knuckle pitchers are not common so gathering two in one card and even more being brothers is great.

Add the fact that they were playing for my Yankees.

One of my favourite Yankee cards.

    1. For Phil this card is a bit outdated because his last season with Yankees was '85. So you may say it's kind a half-Yankee card ;)

  2. Joe Niekro was one of the best pitchers the Astros ever had. He pitched the Astros into their first postseason in 1980 by beating the Dodgers in a one game playoff out in LA. They had blown a big lead the last week of the season.

One of my favorite trivia bits concerning the Astros... Joe hit one homer in his career and it came off his brother! He died at 61, way too young. He was younger than I am now. :-(

    1. One of my second favourite teams is Houston Astros. Usually not famous team for the best results but they do have a history to tell and Joe is part of it. Thanks for the trivia! Way to go!

  3. I don't have many 1986 Donruss, but I've added this one to my want list! Topps needs to have more combo cards like this with players standing next to each other, not just an action shot that happens to have two players in the same play.

    1. I agree. Those ones like 'World Series Foes' and things like that from the early 60s are really cool.

    2. I agree with you both. There are many cards from that wax era that portrait a lot of great players together. Some of the cards look like the photos were taken in the All-Star game. That would be good to see once more if Topps were to listen to cards fans..
