Dustin Ackley - Woman perspective post

Since it seems I cannot find a blog about sports cards written by a woman let me illuminate you about the woman perspective of collecting cards.

Only when I got my Dustin Ackley 2012 Topps Heritage card I did discovered him.
I don't see Mariners games so never mind I only paid attention to Ichiro. But after seeing Dustin blue eyes..wow! Got to tape more Mariners games just to see him!

I only have 2 cards of him. Both from 2012. The Heritage one and the Series 1

 

2012 Toppse Series 1

I just really don't know if he will be some spectacular player, but I know that from now on I'll pay really attention to him. It's on of those players that our eyes really like to see. And makes us happy that he plays baseball so there is no pads or helmets to keep him from the view.

And for that I just added him to my want list at ZISTLE.

2009-10 Upper Deck Ice Hockey Victory

I buy and then read the reviews. I know it's dangerous! Spooky sometimes when you're a newbie and understand too late that the Opening Day set from Topps just add the OD logo to Series 1 cards.

But! None the same, I think I do all good.

It seems, after some web search, that this UD Victory set is the lower end of any ice hockey product they have. For me people think that because it doesn't have super-hyper-mega-special hit cards. But so I like base cards. And clean design cards for the matter. So I truly liked this set.

The card back has this little trivia with the way to pronounce the players name. But I would change that for having the players position. On the RC they have the position but for other players no. That's a shame.

Check the photo. Got 3 Penguins players. Weeeee...oh wait! Jordan Staal is no Pen no more. He got me on tears moving to Carolina. Marc will be next?
And just lucky me got Eric Staal insert card. The Staal brothers are all Stars of the Game for me. So I don't mind on which team they are currently playing...except for Jordan a bit.

Got Niemi RC! Woot! Got pretty mask.

But I must say this. I talked earlier about the clean design chosen for the cards. And they got me thinking of this:

Is just me that see some resemblance between the clean-white-design!?

I'll get 1 more rack pack in a few days. Will get to it then.

Got by mail the information that my 5 boxes of late 80's baseball cards are retained at the customhouse.

Oh well...got to wait for them to understand it is just baseball trading cards.
Just hope it doesn't take that long...

Football Cards - SLBenfica

If you noticed the blog name I'm from Europe so when I say football is the true and only football.
Other concept of that I'll just call it by name like american footbal or australian football, you get it.

Not entering some disput because of what real football is because I know I win.

Well, I saw other day at some shop these packs of football cards just beside the stickers.

There are packs for each big team in Portugal: SLBenfica, Sporting CP and FCPorto.
Each pack cost 1€ at the time but they were going to start asking for each pack 2€ which I think is trully an assault. I think each pack only brings 4 or 5 cards and for sure they don't value that much...

Each card has a player photo, his name and number. Got also that 2D bar code that after some search it is used on the cards brand site to unlock some kind of game. Like a Football Manager of FIFA online game to play with friends. But the cards allow playing offline so to say, that's why they all have those values for attack, defense and speed on the right bottom.

Seems like a great idea but the site doesn't work properly and the facebook page for Futecards are like a zoombie.
The cards back are just plane showing the brand logo and no player information. I was hopping too much I know... But besides these tiny little things I liked the concept and the photos. Got some different cards for the same player.

Also along the 2011/2012 roster for SLBenfica I got some old time players. One of the most well known worldwide is Eusébio. GO PANTERA NEGRA!

I'm waiting to see what comes this year about trading cards like these.

Opening packs or trading?

I'm used from all my life with collecting stickers. Trading cards just came plus tard.
But collecting spirit is the same. Even if I find some differences from what I came to read on the web.

Since Panini stickers are all to stick on an album, we try to complete it. We don't leave some football team page without stickers on because we don't like them. If there are 300 stickers on the album we go for the 300.

What I see about sports trading cards collecters is that they collect in so many possible different ways than that. Some people collect only his/her team players, or just some years cards, or just a couple of players cards, or even only super-hyper-mega-special cards.

With stickers we don't have that possibilities. Panini usually only has 'base' stickers for the collection. On football collections we get the clubs logo as a chromo sticker sometimes, and those are more valuable when trading of course. The same goes for some players like Messi or Ronaldo. One Messi sticker can be trade for 5 'normal' players stickers. That is always subjective.

With Panini stickers we can buy packs or trade duplicates with friends but in the end Panini has the policy for collectors to apply for the missing stickers to complete the album. We may never leave a collection incomplete even if we don't trade.

I really don't see Topps doing that!

But one thing I really like about collecting is the moment of true. That moment with packs to open and trying to figure out if I'll have this or thar card when opening it. There is just that special feeling for the unkwon and the discover of some new card or that long wanted card all our friends have or that I saw so many times on the web.

Trading is about completing and getting ride of duplicates (or cards people don't like). It's something usufull and still fun to trade with friends but doesn't have the suprise moment alog with it.

So yep, I'll trade with you, but I still prefer to buy some packs and open it.

2010 Topps Opening Day value box

I know that the OD cards are something to get away from. They are just like the Topps series 1 cards of that year. Well, but since I don't have any 2010 Topps series 1 cards I got this box with no problems.

They have funny inserts for the OD set. That's all. I still get all excited with my glow-in-the-dark card I got from 2011 OD set. I know..my kiddo side still glows in the dark.

Other thing that I don't like is the OD logo. The Topps logo is enough. It obstructs the photo.

But still, I purchased the box from my usual eBay seller.

I just went through the checklist of 2010 OD and found this card (found it in the A Cardboard Problem):

 

 And if I get this card I'll send a bonus card for whoever comes and leave a comment.

2009-10 Upper Deck Series 2

Like I wished for, got one of the purchased packs/box yesterday.

Here is a look on the 2009-2010 Ud Series 2 rack pack cards.




One of the first cards I went through was an Ovechkin one. I'm a Crosby fan so you can imagine my face...but right after that I got my only Pens' card in the pack, a Malkin celebrating with other Pens. Not quite the most high res photo but that's ok.

My favorite cards are on the photo. Including the Malkin one obvious.

The Victory Rookie card of Del zotto made me think it was an intrude because I haven't opened the Victory pack at that moment yet.

Besides that got 3 insert cards. At least I think they are because they are not like the others.

The back is ok. The normal UD card back saying some player last few years stats. At least the few that fitted in the space.

I'd like to see the name of the team. But to compensate that they had the players position. Seems we cannot have both at the same time.

I was wishing for the Tavares RC but did't get it. Will try other pack perhaps
